Incident Summary – Friday Nightshift, 3rd October 2025
Time: 17:12 Location: Yarrow Drive, Harrogate
Both Harrogate crews responded to an fire in the kitchen of a domestic property caused by an air fryer being left on a cooker. Crews entered wearing breathing apparatus to extinguish the fire with a hose reel jet. All occupants were out prior to their arrival. The cooking appliance was removed and the property naturally ventilated after the fire was extinguished and gas isolated. The occupant sustained some smoke inhalation and went to hospital for further checks. Crews remained on scene to dampen down hotspots and handed over to other family members.

Malton responded to a chimney which was expelling smoke from the brick work. The fire was out prior to the crews arrival and a thermal inspection was completed using a thermal imaging camera. Occupants given advice not to use fire place until breast is repointed and inspected by professional.
Time: 18:23 Location: St Marys Walk, Harrogate
Harrogate responded to a large window which had broken in heavy winds and the elderly occupant was concerned for their safety. Fire crews were able to secure the window temporarily so that the occupant can arrange to have it fixed during daylight hours tomorrow. Small tools and crew power used only.

Thirsk provided assistance with their welfare unit to the cave rescue organisation at an incident they had been in attendance for a prolonged period of time.

A crew from Harrogate responded to reports of a tree fallen in the road, potentially effecting vehicles and an electrical car charging port. Crews found the tree not to be affecting the vehicles or a changing port. Crews cordoned off the area.
Time: 20:44 Location: Burnholme Avenue, York
Crews from York and Acomb responded to a log burner on fire. This was out on arrival. Crews used small tools and a thermal imaging camera to deal with the incident. The cause was a faulty seal the log burner.
Time: 21:09 Location: Lowther Terrace, York
Crews from Tadcaster, Acomb and Malton responded to reports of a kitchen on fire in a ground floor flat of a four story residential building. Two teams wearing breathing apparatus entered the flat and used two hose reel jets to extinguish the fire. A positive pressure ventilation fan was used to clear smoke from fire exits for evacuating occupants who were given smoke hoods by the firefighters assisting them. The fire caused alot of smoke damage. The above flat on the second floor, which was unoccupied also suffered smoke damage. No persons were reported injured at this incident.

Crews assisted the ambulance service with the extrication of a patient from a property to the awaiting road ambulance. Casualty sheets and crew power used.
Time: 21:59 Location: Long Hedge Lane, Carlton
A crew from Selby responded to reports of an electrical fire involving a power line. Crews found that a power line had sparked and lost power prior to their arrival and advice was given to the occupant to await the arrival of Northern Power.

A crew from Acomb responded to reports of a fire seen in a field. This was controlled burning left unattended. Crews extinguished the fire using a hose reel jet.

Tadcaster crew assisted a fire officer with securing a dangerous structure in a residential garden using a tool kit after concerns it would blow away and damage nearby properties.

Hawes assisted two occupants and a dog from a vehicle stuck in floodwater.
Time: 00:31 Location: Low Field, Acomb
Acomb assisted police with gaining entry to a property for ambulance crews. Access was gained via the read door and the occupant was left in the hands of paramedics.
Time: 00:35 Location: Hawthorn Street, York
Crew were mobilised to a report of a fire alarm sounding inside a premises. Crews undertook a thorough search of property with thermal imaging camera. No signs of fire. Cause unknown.
Time: 03:23 Location: White Cross Road, York
A crew from York assisted the ambulance service to gain entry to a property on their behalf. Crews used a triple extension ladder to gain entry to the property. No occupier was present.
Crews from Harogate, Lythe, Malton, Skipton and York also responded to activated fire alarms inside commercial and residential buildings. After inspection, these were confirmed as false alarms.
