Companies Get Chance To See Name In Blue Lights

24th January 2011

Firefighters in North Yorkshire are offering local businesses a novel advertising opportunity as part of a drive to raise funds for an award winning team.

North Yorkshire Fire & Rescue Service’s Extrication Team are seeking sponsorship to enable them to attend the forthcoming World Rescue Challenge and as part of this they are offering the opportunity for companies to support community safety initiatives by having their name displayed on local fire service vehicles.

Having won the recent UK Rescue Organisation Vehicle Extrication Challenge in Hampshire, the North Yorkshire team are now going on to represent the United Kingdom at the worldwide event to be held in New Zealand this July and will defend their title in London in September.

The team is made up of serving firefighters, who through their involvement and success in road rescue challenges are able to deliver important safety advice to the public by demonstrating their skills at road safety events across the county and in the city of York.

The skills and knowledge developed in carrying out these demonstrations and competing in rescue challenges is passed back to colleagues through regular training updates.

Road Rescue Team Manager, Andy Young, said of the scheme:

“Since being formed the extrication team has achieved considerable success in not only raising awareness of road safety issues in North Yorkshire, but also increasing the skills and expertise of all our firefighters in dealing with difficult extrication scenarios.

“We’re now looking to share this success with local companies who can provide support to the team in their ongoing work.”

A number of packages have been developed which include the opportunity for companies to show their support for the extrication team on one or more of the fire and rescue service vehicles. A special demonstration day will also be held at North Yorkshire Fire & Rescue Service’s Easingwold Training Centre on the 28th January.
