Fire Service issues water safety advice

7th June 2010

North Yorkshire Fire and Rescue Service (NYFRS) is extremely saddened by the events at Stepping Stones, Bolton Abbey on Saturday 5th June 2010 that lead to the death of 8 year old Aaron Page.

Along with members of the other emergency services that tried to save Aaron, all the firefighters involved were deeply affected by the incident and we offer our sincere condolences to Aaron’s family.

Whilst the circumstances surrounding this tragedy are still being investigated on behalf of the Coroner, NYFRS issues advice that is always given at this time of year and especially during periods of hot weather.

Please take care when entering or playing in or near moving water, rivers or reservoirs. Even in hot weather, open water, though inviting to look at, can be extremely cold and seemingly slow moving streams and rivers can have dangerous undercurrents.
