Incident Summary – Wednesday Nightshift, 7th January 2026

Time:  17:31  Location: Old School Walk, York

Acomb responded to a discarded Christmas tree on fire in a play area. The fire was out prior to their arrival and crews carried out an inspection to ensure there was no further risk of fire spread. The incident was left with police who were speaking with youths in the area as the fire was believed to had been deliberate.

Time:  18:07  Location: Chruch Fenton

Tadcaster mobilised to reports of a fire seen in the garden of a property. After inspection,  this was confirmed as a controlled burn under supervision. Advice was given to the responsible person.

Time: 18:10   Location: Middleton Tyas

Northallerton responded to water leaking into the roof of a garage attached to a domestic property. Crews isolated the water which had only damaged the garage. After investigation, a loose copper pipe had been indentified as causing the leak. Small tools were used to temporarily fix the issue and advice was given to the occupant who has arranged for a plumber to attend.

Time: 18:12  Location: Newgate Market, York

Acomb responded to three people stuck inside a public toilet. Crews released all occupants with a public access key and no injuries were reported.

Time: 18:30   Location: Market Hill, Boroughbridge

A crew from Thirsk and Knaresborough responded to reports of a building on fire in the area. On arrival, crews found no sign of fire so recontacted the initial caller for further details but they also could no longer see a fire.  A full investigation was carried out to confirm no fires were present before leaving the incident.

Time:  19:48  Location: Acomb Road, York

Acomb responded to an infant trapped inside a bath seat. Crews were able to safely remove the infant using crew power only. No injuries were reported and the incident was left with both parents.

Time:  19:58  Location: Bachelor Hill, York

York responded to a pile of rubbish on fire. Crews extinguished the fire with knapsack sprayers and a bucket of water. The cause of the fire was believed to had been deliberate.

Time:  20:18  Location: Townend Street, York

Acomb assisted ambulance crews with gaining entry to a property. No occupier was located at the property. Crews resecured the property.

Time: 21:49  Location: Newland, Selby

Selby and an assisting appliance from Humberside responded to a skip on fire outside a domestic property.  The fire was confined to the skip only with damage to some of the contents. Crews extinguished the fire with a main jet hose line.

Time: 00:03  Location: Guisborough Road, Whitby

Whitby and Lythe mobilised to a vehicle on its roof with the driver out on arrival. Crews used the appliance winch to pull and flip the vehicle back to all four wheels so that it could be moved from the road safely. Crews remained on scene to provide welfare for the driver as they awaited the arrival of an ambulance for further medical checks. After the arrival of ambulance, the driver was transferred to a road ambulance for transport to hospital. Crews used chocks, winch straps, extinguishers and a hose reel jet at this incident.

Crews from York (x2), Scarborough and Harrogate also responded to activated fire alarms inside residential buildings. After inspection, these were all confirmed as false alarms.
