Incident Summary – Saturday, 11th July 2026
Time: 17:15 Location: Middleham, Leyburn
Leyburn and both Richmonds and Ripon’s water rescue teams mobilised to reports of a young person who had accidentally been separated from their parents and it was unknown if they they had entered the River Cover. Leyburn crew liaised with a Mountain Rescue team to conduct a downstream bankside search of the river whilst Ripon and Richmond swift water teams positioned themselves on either side of the river to also assist with the search alongside police officers. A Police Helicopter was also on scene to assist with the search. After a short time searching, the young person was found safe and well on a footpath downstream from here they were last seen and showed no signs of ever being in the river. They were taken back to a rendevouz point where police and fire crews had began their search to reunite with their parents. No injuries were reported at this incident.

A crew from Harrogate and Knaresborough responded to reports of a two vehicle road traffic collision, involving an electric vehicle and a diesel vehicle. All occupants of the vehicles were out on arrival, with no injuries. Crews monitored temperature of electric vehicle with a thermal imaging camera until satisfied it was at an ambient temperature and provided traffic management.

A crew from Acomb responded to reports of a fire to grass, lit by youths. Police were informed. Crews used a backpack sprayer to extinguish the fire, measuring 2m by 2m.

A crew from Loftus (Cleveland) assisted North Yorkshire with reports of a makeshift bbq in a bucket, in a layby close to the moors edge.
Time: 21:32 Location: Filey Road, Scarborough
A crew from Scarborough responded to reports of a fire alarm sounding. This was a false alarm caused by a faulty detector.
Time: 01:36 Location: Castlegate, York
Crews from York and Acomb, alongside specialist water rescue resources from Malton and Ripon and a boat from Selby, responded to reports of a person in waist deep water, unable to get out. Police had secured the person with a throw line, and crews used a triple extension ladder to allow the person to exit the water. They were left in care of the police and ambulance service.

A crew from Harrogate responded to reports of a power bank that may have overheated. Crews used a dry powder extinguisher on the power bank as a precaution.

A crew from Whitby responded to reports of a person locked in their bedroom, after the door lock had failed, with a child on the other side they were unable to get to.
Time: 05:38 Location: Osgodby Lane, Scarborough
A crew from Scarborough responded to reports of a fire alarm sounding. This was a false alarm caused by spider webs.
