Incident Summary – Friday, 10th July 2026

Time: 17:48  Location: Westbourne Road, Selby

Selby mobilised to a hedge on fire at the rear of a residential garden which had spread to a free standing garage. Crews extinguished the fire using a hose reel jet. Only mild fire damage to fence and garage was recorded.

Time: 18:17  Location: Moor Lane, Copmanthorpe

York and Tadcaster responded to reports of a tumble dryer fire inside a domestic property with all persons evacuated prior to crews arrival. The tumble dryer fire was out on arrival and removed to open air and inspected by fire crews using a thermal imaging camera. Advice was given to the occupant.

Time: 19:12  Location: A64, Bishopthorpe

Whilst returning to home station, Tadcaster were flagged down by a member of the public who believed there car was possibly going to set on fire. After inspection with a thermal imaging camera there was no sign of fire confirmed by the fire crews. Advice given to owner who will arrange recovery.

Time: 19:17  Location: Layerthorpe, York

York used small tools to help release a person stuck inside communal toilets of a residential building after the door had a failed mechanism.

Time: 19:36   Location: Silsden

Skipton and Grassington were enroute to assist our colleagues in West Yorkshire Fire and Rescue Service with a reports of a building smoking. However, this was confirmed as false alarm good intent as it was a smoke cloak inside the building which had been mistaken as smoke. No action was required by North Yorkshire Fire crews and the incident was left with West Yorkshire crews.

York mobilised to a fire to some undergrowth measuring 4 x 2 metres along a cycle path. Crews extinguished the fire using a hose reel jet.

Time: 20:34   Location: High Stakesby, Whitby

Lythe crew attended reports of a person still inside a property that was on fire. Crews arrived to find previously burnt tea towels left outside property which had already been extinguished. Police were on scene and confirmed no occupant or fire was inside the property. No further action was required by the fire service and the incident was left with police to investigate further.

Time: 20:53   Location: Foss Islands Road, York

York were mobilised to reports of a small fire close to a bridge. After inspection of the area, crews found no signs of fire. It is believed this a false alarm with good intent due to a previous incident in the area already being dealt with by a fire crew earlier.

Time: 20:54   Location: Sandside, Scarborugh

Filey responded to a small smoldering campfire measuring 1 by 0.5 metres left unattended. Crews extinguished the fire using a knapsack sprayer.

Time: 21:05   Location: Cornwall Road, Harrogate

Harrogate were requested to gain entry to a property after carers were unable to access thier patients property. Crews gained access via a first floor window using a triple extension ladder to locate the occupant inside. Crews allowed access to the carers and left the occupant with them.

Time:  21:16  Location: Gilsthwaite Lane, Green Hammerton 

Two fire crews attended a fire to approximately 80 metres of hedge row which had then spread to approximately 2 metre squared of standing crops in a nearby field. Crews extinguished the fire using hose reel jets and beaters. A thermal imaging camera confirmed no further hotspots were present and the local farmer was informed of the fire before crews left the incident.

A crew from Kirkbymoorside responded to a camp fire which had been left unattended measuring approximately 2 by 2 metres. Crews extinguished the fire using a hose reel jet.

Time: 22:08   Location: Knavesmire, York

A crew responded to a small grass fire measuring 2 by 2 metres on a playing field. Crews using knapsack sprayers extinguished the fire.

Time:  22:39  Location: Anthea Driver, York

York responded to reported of smoke seen in the garden of a property. After inspection, this was confirmed as a controlled burn under supervision. Advice was given to the occupant who had sufficient water media nearby.

Time: 22:51   Location: Cheery Avenue, Malton

A crew from Malton responded to a young person trapped inside the bathroom of thier property after a door malfunction. Crews using small tools released the person safely.

Time:  23:03  Location: Clarence Street, York

York mobilised to an alarm activation inside a residential building. After inspection, this was confirmed as a false alarm. Advice was given to the responsible person.

Time: 23:22   Location: Hookstone Road, Harrogate

Harrogate responded to a fire alarm inside a residential building. They discovered that this was caused by cooking fumes and the occupant was given advice.

Time: 23:28   Location: Barton, Richmond

Richmond responded to a request from ambulance to gain entry to a property after the occupant inside was unable to open the door due to medical reasons. Crews gained entry to the property and left the patient in the hands of ambulance crews who will take the occupant to hospital via road. Small tools used only.

Time: 23:54   Location: Knaresborough Road, Harrogate

Both Harrogate appliances responded to reports of flooding in the area due to a burst water pipe on the road. Crews attempted to redirect the water away from affected properties using poly booms from their environmental pack. They also attempted to decrease water levels using a light portable pump prior to Yorkshire Waters attendance. Police and Highways were also requested to attend and help manage a road closure. The incident was left with Yorkshire Water upon their arrival who isolated the water.

Time: 00:17   Location: Thornton-le-Beans

Northallerton responded to a vehicle which had impacted a bridge and crashed into a beck. The occupant was confirmed out the vehicle prior to fire crews arrival and in the hands of police. Crews provided scene safety before they left the incident in the hands of police.

Time: 00:51 Location: Coffee Yard, York

A crew from York responded to reports of water coming through the ceiling and affecting the electrics of a building. Crews isolated the water and advice was given.

Time: 01:58  Location: Jenny Field Drive, Harrogate

A crew from Harrogate responded to an activated fire alarm sounding inside a residential premise. After investigation this was confirmed as a false alarm.

Time: 02:33  Location: Jenny Field Drive, Harrogate

A crew from Harrogate responded to a different fire alarm activation in a similar property to the one before. An investigation also confirmed this to be a false alarm as no signs of smoke or fire were present again.

Time: 02:49  Location: Fox Lane, Stokesley

A crew from Stokesley responded to reports of a fire in the woods. This was a small fire measuring 2m by 2m, consisting of wood chips. Crews used knapsack sprayers to extinguish.

Time: 03:24  Location: Hartwith

A crew from Harrogate responded to reports of a single vehicle road traffic collision, where the vehicle had overturned. Crews used a reciprocating saw to remove foliage from the vehicle to assist with recovery. The driver was out on arrival and in the care of ambulance and police.

Time: 03:29 Location: The Crescent, Selby

A crew from Selby were requested to gain entry to a property on behalf of police, for the ambulance service. Access was gained and the incident was left with paramedics.

Time: 05:45  Location: Woodfield Driver, Harrogate

Both Harrogate crews responded to reports of smoke seen inside a property with an occupant believed still inside. On arrival, crews discovered the smoke was from burnt cooking and the occupant was found inside safe and well. Inspection only and advice given.

Time: 06:37  Location: Murton, York

York responded to two fires in the open seen from drivers on the A64 at Grimston roundabout. After inspection, this was controlled burning under supervision. Advice given to responsible person.
