Firefighters Support Restart a Heart Day
Published 16th Oct 2023
Take a moment to learn CPR, you may just save a life – is the message our firefighters are spreading today.
Each year many of our crews volunteer to attend secondary schools across our county to teach youngsters the importance of CPR.
This is for Restart a Heart Day, which takes place annually, on or around October, 16.
Approximately 30,000 out of hospital cardiac arrests take place each year. Sadly, less than one in 10 people survive these cardiac arrests but, in some cases, performing CPR can more than double the chances of survival.
The purpose of the day is to educate more people what to do if someone collapses and stops breathing.
Three of the most important, immediate steps to take are, calling 999, perform CPR and use a defibrillator, if there is one nearby.
As around 80% of out-of-hospital cardiac arrests happen in the home, this gives parents, children and friends, the best chance of survival.
If you are interested in learning CPR then why not take 15 minutes today and use the RevivR training? All you need is a phone and a cushion.
