Incident Summary – Tuesday 24th February 2026 – Night Shift

Time: 19:26  Location: Charles Street, Selby

Selby assisted police with gaining entry to a property for a welfare check on the occupant. The occupant was in the property safe and well and left in care of a family member. Door enforcer used only.

Time: 19:28 Location: Middle Lanes, Snaiton

Pickering and a crew from Scarborough responded to a single vehicle road traffic collision. One abandoned vehicle was found by crews which had impacted a wall. Small tools, spreaders and cutters were used to gain access to the vehicles battery. After crews isolated the battery, the incident was left with police to investigate further.

Time: 19:57  Location: Esplande Gardens, Scarborough

Scarborough crew responded to reports of electrical sparks seen on top of a residential building. Crews investigated the location of the sparks and after notifying the occupant, discovered this was due to an electrical bird deterrent device short circuiting on an external roof. Advice was given to the occupant who will arrange for an engineer to inspect the device. A thermal inspection confirmed no fire spread but the device was left isolated to avoid any further fire risks.

Time: 20:26  Location: Goslipgate, Pickering

Pickering and Malton crews responded to an occupant who thought their hoover was overheating. After a thermal inspection, crews found no hotspots and gave advice to the occupant.

Time: 22:21  Location: Skeldergate, York

A crew from York responded to a request for assistance from police after a loose unoccupied boat had been reported heading down the river. Crews liaised on scene with York rescue boat who gained control of the loose boat and no fire service action was required. The incident was left with York rescue boat.

Time: 03:15  Location: Harrogate Road, Ripon

Both crews from Ripon responded to sparks coming from a lighting fixture inside a residential property. On arrival, crews found no sign of smoke or fire. After inspection it was found that a power surge caused the fire alarms to activate.

Time: 03:15  Location: Fairfield Road, Stokesley

Stokesley assisted ambulance with the difficult extrication of an occupant from the second floor of a property to the awaiting road ambulance outside. Crew power used only.

Time: 04:33  Location: Gillygate, York

Crews from York and Acomb responded to reports of smoke coming out of a building. On arrival this was confirmed by the police to be from a smoke cloak which had activated. Crews gained entry to the property for the police and then ventilated it using a positive pressure ventilation fan and the incident was left in the hands of the police.

Crews from Selby, Scarborough, York, Harrogate, Ripon (x3) and Reeth attended fire alarm activations. On arrival after investigation these were all confirmed as false alarms.
