Incident Summary – Saturday 1st August Night Shift

17:29 – Haxby

A crew from Huntington responded to reports of a fire in a field that had been started deliberately. Four seats of fire were located and extinguished. Details of those responsible for starting the fires were passed to the police.

17:30 – Harwood Dale

A crew from Scarborough attended a deliberate fire that had been started in woodland. They used knapsack sprayers, buckets of water and beaters to extinguish the fire. Details of those responsible for starting the fire were passed to the police.

17:33 – Grimston

Tadcaster’s crew responded to a straw bale on fire in a field that then spread to 20m of stubble. The crew used a hose reel jet to prevent the fire spreading further and to dampen the area. They also used wildfire tools and a ceiling hook to dismantle the straw bale, and saturated it with water from the water bowser.

19:25 – Tang Hall, York

A crew from York responded to a report of a fire in a garden. This was a supervised burn which the occupant extinguished following Fire Service advice.

19:52 – Harlow Hill, Harrogate

Harrogate’s crew attended a report of people having a campfire in a field. This was a small barbecue on concrete slabs a suitable distance away from grass. The crew advice.

19:54 – Selby

Crews from Selby and York responded to reports of a fire in a residential building. The fire was confined to a small electrical fuse box and was out on arrival of the crews. They used a thermal imaging camera to monitor the temperature of the fuse box until it had cooled sufficiently. Advice was given to residents and an electrician was scheduled to attend.

19:55 – Walmgate, York

A crew from Acomb attended a commercial premises with flooding affecting electrics. The crew used small tools to isolate the affected electrics and gave advice to the proprietors to contact an electrician and a plumber.

22:18 – Snape

Both crews from Ripon attended a baler on fire. The farmer had baler had moved the baler out of the stubble field prior to the fire service arriving. Crews used two hose reel jets and two breathing apparatus to extinguish the fire and dampen down the surrounding area. The crew also utilised agricultural equipment to remove bales from the baler.

22:29 – Brimham 

A crew from Summerbridge responded to a single vehicle road traffic collision where a car had left the carriageway and landed on its roof. No one was trapped in the vehicle and the driver sustained minor injuries. Crews used a thermal imaging camera to scan for hotspots due to reports of smoke issuing form the vehicle. This is believed to have been dust following the airbags deploying. The crew also assisted with clearing the carriageway of debris and left the incident with Police and Ambulance.

22:46 – Church Fenton

Tadcaster’s crew responded to a fire in a garden. This was found to be burning under supervision. The crew gave advice to the occupants.

00:00 – Rawcliffe

A crew from Acomb responded to a report of flooding in a premises with water affecting electrics. The leak and electrics had been isolated prior to the crew’s arrival. The crew gave advice for the occupant to contact a plumber.

01:19 – Burton Salmon

Selby crew and Pontefract crew from West Yorkshire attended and extinguished a fire involving a car. Crews used one hose reel jet to extinguish. Police contacted.

04:38 – Keasdon

Bentham crew attended the area following a report of a fire in the open. Crew located an unattended controlled burn and extinguished using one hose reel jet.

0500 – Mickley

Ripon crew attended a domestic property following a report of a water leak inside, affecting electrics. On crews arrival, both the water and electrics had been isolated, crews gave advice to occupiers.

06:21 – Slingsby

Malton’s appliance responded to reports of a muck heap on fire. This incident is still ongoing.
