Incident Summary – 7th August Night Shift

Time: 17.17  Location:  Catgill, Bolton Abbey

A crew from Skipton responded to a report of a fire in the open near a farm.  On arrival the crews located a fire measuring 4m x 2m consisting of wood and fire pit ash from a campsite that had started as a controlled burn.  Crews extinguished the fire using small jets and left the incident with a responsible person with adequate fire fighting media.

Time: 17.39  Location:  Doncaster Road, Whitley

A crew from Selby responded to a report of a bonfire which was spreading to the surrounding area.  On arrival the crews located a fire approx 2m x 2m in size that had spread to a field affecting a further 50m x 50m.  The fire had burnt itself out prior to the arrival of the crews so crews checked for hotspots using the thermal imaging camera and created a fire break to prevent any further fire spread.

Crews from Ripon, Harrogate and Grassington responded to a report of a person who had fallen in the river and couldn’t get back out.  Crews used MOD 2 proceedures and rescued the person who had no injuries but checked over by Ambulance crews as a precautionary measure.

Time: 18.00  Location:  Lilla Close, Whitby

A crew from Whitby responded to a request from Ambulance to assist with a difficult extrication of a casualty from their property into an Ambulance.  Crews used crew power to transport the male to the Ambulance.

Time: 19.45  Location:  Holgate Road, York

Crews from Huntington and Acomb responded to a report of a two vehicle road traffic collision.  All persons were out of the vehicles on arrival of the crews.  Crews made the scene safe and isolated the batteries.  Casualties were left in the care of Ambulance crews and the incident left in the hands of Police.

Time: 21.04  Location:  Bawtry Road, Selby

A crew from Selby responded to a request from Police to assist a recovery company to safely remove a vehicle that had been in an earlier road traffic collision from a post that it had come to rest on.  Crews used cutting gear to assist with the removal of the vehicle.

Time: 21.08  Location: Filey

A crew from Scarborough responded to a report of a fire on the beach.  This was found to be a small bonfire with responsible people in attendance with adequate water to extinguish it.

Time: 21.31  Location: Carlton, Selby

A crew from Selby responded to a request from Ambulance for assistance with extricating a casualty from their property and into an ambulance. Crews used crew power to assist casualty into the road ambulance and left in the hands of the paramedics.

Time: 21.38  Location:  Dragon Parade, Harrogate 

A crew from Harrogate responded to a report of a person who had become locked into a bedroom after the door mechanism failed. Crews used small tools to release the person and no further action required.

Time: 22:02  Location: Skeldergate, York

A Crew from York were mobilised to a person reported to be trapped in a bike lock. Person was no longer on scene on arrival of fire crew. No action taken by fire crew.

Time: 00.44  Location:  Selby

A crew from Selby responded to a request from Ambulance to gain entry to a property due to concerns for the occupant.  On arrival of the crews access had been gained and no fire service action was necessary.

Time: 02.45  Location: Burton in Lonsdale

A crew from Hornby (NWFRS) responded to a report of a domestic smoke alarm sounding.  This was found to be a false alarm due to cooking fumes.  Crews used natural ventilation to vent the property.

Time: 03.26  Location: West Marton

Two crews from Skipton responded to a report of a fire in a garden of a residential property.  The fire caused 75% damage to the fencing pergola and pallet flooring, minor damage to the garage door and minor smoke damage to neighbouring properties. The cause is still to be determined.

Time: 04.25  Location:  Fewston Drive, York

A crew from Acomb responded to a request to assist Ambulance to extricate a casualty from their property to an Ambulance. Crews used crew power to assist.

Time: 06.06  Location: Market Place, Easingwold

A crew from Easingwold responded to a report of a Helium cannister that was leaking into a property.  Crews used 2 Breathing Apparatus to isolate the cannister and remove it from the property.

Crews from Whitby, York and Harrogate x2 also attended automatic fire alarm activations.  After inspection these were found to be false alarms.
