Incident Summary – Tuesday Dayshift, 18th August 2026

Time:   09:16  Location: Clough Wood 

Crews from Pickering alongside Kirkbymoorside’s Argocat responded to flames reported from a tree line within the Clough Wood area. After inspection, crews liaised with the landowner who confirmed this as controlled burning under supervision. Advice was given.

Time:  09:26   Location: Eastborough, Scarborough

Scarborough responded to an activated fire alarm inside a residential building. This was confirmed as a false alarm after inspection.

Time:  09:32   Location: Milby, Boroughbridge

Ripon responded to smoke sighted within a small section of woodland. This was confirmed as a false alarm with good intent after crews found a controlled burn measuring 3 x 3 metres under supervision.

Time: 09:56    Location: Nawton

Helmsley responded to reports of smoke sighted near a field close to Nawton. Crews investigated and found a controlled burn under supervision with the landowner. This was false alarm good intent.

Time:  10:27   Location: Harrogate Road, Harrogate

A crew from Harrogate responded to smoke seen in the area. This was a controlled burn under supervision and advice was given to the responsible person.

Time:   10:27  Location: Foreshore Road, Scarborough

Scarborough assisted a staff member from Whitby Wildlife Sanctuary with the safe removal of a herring gull chick caught in netting on the roof of a commercial building. Crews used a triple extension ladder and left the chick in the care of the responsible person.

Time:  10:34   Location: Near Kirkby Overflow, Harrogate

Harrogate responded to a bonfire which was confirmed as a controlled burn under supervision. Advice given.

Time:  10:58   Location: Cringle Moor

Stokesley responded to a fire which was confirmed as a controlled burn after inspection. Advice was given to the responsible person in attendance.

Time: 10:58    Location: Cleasby

Northallerton gained entry to a property for ambulance crews after they were unable to gain access to the occupant inside. Crews used small tools and the occupant was left in the care of paramedics.

Time:  11:09   Location: A59, Whixley

Harrogate responded to a small but unsupervised fire measuring 5 metre squared in a dry field. Crews used a hose reel jet to extinguish the fire and prevented further spread.

Time:  11:25   Location: Kirkby, Stokesley

Stokesley alongside an assisting appliance for Cleveland Fire and Rescue responded to a fire within a farm building. Crews located hay bales which had ignited and extinguished them using a hose reel jet whilst wearing breathing apparatus. There was also 50 cows within the building which were uninjured. The building sustained no fire or smoke damage and the burnt hay was removed from the building. The incident was left with the responsible person who emptied the remainder of the building using their tractor.

Acomb responded to an activated fire alarm inside a residential building. This was confirmed as a false alarm due to the testing of the system.

Time: 11:57    Location: Crichton Avenue, York

York and Acomb responded to the believed smell of burning inside a residential buildings attic. After an inspection with a thermal imaging camera no signs of fire could be found. Advice was given to the occupant and a home fire safety visit was completed.

Time: 13:06    Location: Tadcaster

Tadcaster responded to a pile of garden rubbish and trees measuring approximately 5 x 4 metres left unattended. Crews used a hose reel jet to extinguish the fire and dampened down the area.

Time: 15:20    Location: Doncaster Road, Selby

Selby responded to an activated fire alarm inside a domestic property. After inspection, this was confirmed as a false alarm.

Time:  15:20   Location: Catterick Village

Richmond and Northallerton responded to a hob fire which was out on arrival. No persons were injured and were out of the property prior to fire crews arrival. Crews used natural ventilation to clear the property of smoke.

Time:  15:38   Location: Newbiggin, Malton

Malton responded to an activated fire alarm inside a residential building. After inspection, this was confirmed as a false alarm. An engineer was requested to reset the alarm system.

Time: 16:26    Location: Barff Lane, Selby

Selby responded to the smell of burning inside a the flat of a residential building. After investigation, this was a false alarm caused by cooking fumes. False alarm good intent.
