Major Incident Now Stood Down
Yesterday (Tuesday, 19 July) we declared a major incident and this is an update to say this status has now been stood down.
Our resilience plans were tested but we maintained the ability to respond to risks and threats to life across City and county.
We would like to thank everyone for their support during this extremely testing time.
Many people opened their doors and offered refreshments and facilities to our crews on the ground, including a local primary school and a supermarket, and we are extremely grateful for this.
From noon yesterday until midnight we received 172 emergency calls and responded to 57 incidents – six of these incidents required more than four appliances with our largest incident requiring nine.
Again, thank you to everyone who assisted us in some way, from offering our firefighters bottles of water to sharing our social media posts and writing messages of support.
