Incident Summary – 7th May 2026, Thursday Nightshift

Time: 17:18  Location: Stockwell Road, Knaresborough

Knaresborough responded to a fire in the open. After inspection, this was confirmed as a controlled burn under supervision. Crews gave advice.

Time: 17:28  Location: Sowerby Road, Acomb

Acomb and York responded to a small fire consisting of paper on the roof of an outstanding building. The fire out on arrival with no damage caused. Crews completed inspection prior to leaving scene.

Time: 17:32  Location: Eastgate, Helmsley

Kirkbymoorside and Thirsk responded to an electric pole that had ignited, spreading to a perimeter hedge of two properties.  A firefighter wearing breathing apparatus equipment for comfort began extinguishing the fire. The power board were requested to inspect the charred, overhead power lines. The guttering and facade to two properties had been affected by the hedge fire and crews isolated mains gas to both properties as a precaution. No signs of fire inside the properties were evident. A fire investigation will be conducted during daylight hours to determine a cause. Crews used a triple exterior ladder, one breathing apparatus, hose reel jets and a thermal imaging camera.

Time: 17:32   Location: Beal Lane, Eggborough

Selby alongside the assistance of an appliance from West Yorkshire responded to a pile of rubbish on fire measuring 5 x 5 metres at the side of the road. Crews extinguished the fire with a hose reel jet. The cause of the fire is believed deliberate.

Time: 17:58  Location: Kirkbymoorside

Crews from Malton responded to reports of a shed on fire in the area. After an inspection of the area there was no incident located. It was later discovered this was a malicious call.

Time: 18:47  Location: Pickering

After dealing with the previous malicious call, Malton  fire crew responded to another report of a shed fire. This was also discovered to had been a malicious fire call. Police were informed of all details gathered by the fire crew.

Time: 19:45  Location: The Dell, Eastfield

Scarborough responded to a fire in the open measuring approximately 1 x 1 metre. consisting of grass and small pieces of wood out on arrival. Crews dampened down fire with knapsack sprayers.

Time: 20:33  Location: Tannery Lane, Northallerotn

Both crews from Northallerton, Thirsk and Stokesley responded to a fire inside an industrial unit. All person had evacuated prior to the crews arrival with no reported injuries. After the fire had been extinguished carefully to prevent water run off, multiple firefighters wearing breathing apparatus entered the building to dampen down any hotspots identified with the thermal imaging camera. The incident was then handed back to the responsible person and a fire investigation will take place during daylight hours to determine the cause.

Time: 22:06  Location: High Street, Starbeck

Both crews from Harrogate and Knaresborough responded to a fire inside a commercial building. All persons were accounted for from the residential flats above. A firefighting team wearing breathing apparatus entered the property to extinguish the developed fire inside the first floor of the building. A positive pressure ventilation fan was then used to clear the building of smoke so that the occupants were able to return to their flats safely which had avoided fire damage. A handover form was completed with the responsible person and after a fire investigation was carried out.

Time: 01:28  Location: Brayton Lane, Selby

Selby responded to a report of a bonfire seen from the road. After a full inspection of the area, no fire was located. This was a false alarm with good intent.

Time: 01:37  Location: Braham Crossroads, Tadcaster

Both Tadcaster Appliances responded to a single vehicle road traffic collision. The driver was out on arrival with no injuries. Crews provided scene safety and isolated the battery to the hybrid vehicle with small tools. The incident was left in the hands of police and highways.

Time: 05:46 Location: Cambridge Street, Scarborough

Crews from Scarborough, Sherburn, Robin Hoods Bay and a specialist incident support unit responded to reports of an explosion to a residential premises. Crews are currently on scene extinguishing the fire. Crews are using breathing apparatus to extinguish the fire. This incident is ongoing.

Time: 06:04 Location: Princes Villa Road, Harrogate

A crew from Harrogate responded to reports of a van on fire. This was a fire to a commercial van. Crews used a hose reel jet and a thermal imaging camera to extinguish the fire.

Crews from Whitby, Hawes and Ripon also responded to activated fire alarms. After inspection, these were all confirmed as false alarms.
