Incident Summary – Friday 22nd May 2026 – Day Shift

Time: 10:42  Location: Heslington, York

Crews from York and Acomb responded to a report of smoke within a residential building. This was found to be a fire within a kitchen, crews extinguished using a hose reel jet and two breathing apparatus and then ventilated the property.

Time: 11:25  Location: A64 Fulford

Crews from Selby, Huntington and Acomb responded to a report of a lorry on fire on the carriageway. On arrival and after investigation there was no fire and this was found to be a mechanical fault, no fire service action was required.

Time: 11:50  Location: Brotherton

Crews from Tadcaster alongside an appliance from West Yorkshire fire and rescue service responded to a report of a vehicle on fire in woodland. On arrival the vehicle was well alight and the fire had spread to nearby tress and vegetation. Crews used knapsack sprayers and buckets of water to extinguish and the incident was handed over to the police.

Time: 13:08  Location: Seamer Road, Scarborough

A crew from Scarborough responded to a road traffic collision. All occupants were out on arrival of the crews and they made the scene safe. The incident was left with the police.

Time: 13:16  Location: Chesney Fields, York

A crew from Acomb responded to a sofa on fire in the garden of a property. Crews extinguished using a hose reel jet.

Time: 13:31  Location: Gordale Mount, Knaresborough

Crews from Harrogate and Knaresborough responded to a bin fire which had spread to further bins and a fence. The fire was out on arrival of crews and they used one hose reel jet to dampen down.

Time: 13:40  Location: Burniston Road

A crew from Scarborough responded to a two vehicle road traffic collision. All occupants were out on arrival and crews made the scene safe.

Time: 15:04  Location: Market Place, Helmsley

A crew from Helmsley responded to a waste bin which was on fire, they extinguished using a hose reel jet.

Time: 15:06  Location: Borough Road, Richmond

A crew from Richmond responded to a report of a vehicle which was smoking. On arrival after investigation this was found to be a false alarm due to a mechanical fault. No fire service action was required.

Time: 16:38  Location: Catterick Village

A crew from Richmond responded to a large fire sighted in the open. On arrival this was found to be a controlled burn under supervision, the fire was spreading to nearby vegetation and crews dampened down the surrounding area using a hose reel jet.

 

Crews from Harrogate Selby and Knaresborough attended fire alarm activations. On arrival after investigation these were all confirmed as false alarms.
