Incident Summary – Tuesday, 13th July 2026
Time: 17:45 Location: Long Marston
Both crews from Acomb, York, Huntington alongside Tadcaster and Tadcaster’s Water Bowser mobilised to a field fire of standing crops measuring 200 x 200 metres. Crews used hose reel jets and beaters to extinguish the fire which was believed to had started accidentally.

Boroughbridge responded to reports of smoke coming from a field, on crews arrival this was found to be a false alarm due to controlled burning with extinguishing media present.

Crews from Grassington responded to reports of people having a portable BBQ. This occurred in an area where there are numerous signs stating that BBQs are not allowed. Fire crews located the BBQ and extinguished using a bucket of water.
Time: 19:17 Location: Bogs Lane, Harrogate
Knaresborough crew responded to an automatic fire alarm sounding at a property. After investigation this was found to be a false alarm, advice was given to the responsible person present.

Crews from Tadcaster responded to reports of a bin fire. Locals had attempted to extinguish, but it was still smouldering on fire service arrival. Crews used a knapsack sprayer to extinguish.

Hawes responded to a vehicle that was reported on fire. On arrival, crews found no sign of fire but that the vehicle had overheated only. Hose reel jets were used to cool the vehicles engine compartment and the incident left with vehicle owner to arrange recovery.
Time: 21:01 Location: Hambleton Avenue, Thirsk
Thirsk were called to reports of a bonfire behind some properties. However on arrival they found this to be a controlled burn under supervision. Advice was given.

Pickering and Helmsley responded to a combine harvester on fire in a field of standing crops. The fire, confined to the harvester only, was extinguished by crews in breathing apparatus using hose reel jets with the water supplied in a relay between the two fire engines from the closest hydrant available. Spreaders were used to access the engine compartment and grain storage of harvester to dampen down hotspots. The incident was left with the responsible person.

York mobilised to a small fire left unattended. Crews extinguished the fire with buckets of water.
Time: 21:43 Location: Chaloners Road, Acomb
Acomb responded to a small grass fire out prior to their arrival. Crews carried out inspection only and confirmed no further risk of fire spread.

Northallerton responded to reports of people having a bonfire in the area. Crews located the bonfire and extinguished using buckets of water.
Time: 22:05 Location: West Layton
Richmond crew responded to reports of a fire in a field. On arrival crews found a fire measuring 05 m X 05 m left unsupervised. Crews used a hose reel jet to extinguish. Whilst on scene crews discovered another fire measuring 05 m X 05 m consisting of logs and farm waste, crews extinguished.

Goathland and Whitby crews responded to reports of people having a campfire. The fire was extinguished due to the wind embers blowing onto the moorland. Crews extinguished the campfire using a bucket of water and ensured there were no hotspots.

Acomb crews responded to reports of a grass fire, crews used a knapsack sprayer to extinguish.

York crews responded to reports of youths setting fire in a field. Crews thoroughly searched the area but found no sign of fire.
Time: 01:48 Location: Cononley, Skipton
Skipton were requested by ambulance crews to gain entry to a property after they were unable to access the patient inside. Crews gained access via a first floor window using a triple extension ladder and found the occupant safe and well inside their property. The incident was left with paramedics.

York assisted two people trapped inside a lift stuck between floors. Crews were able to manually lower the lift via its manual line gear and release both females safely who had been trapped for approximately 15 minutes prior to crews arrival. Lift keys were also used to open the doors once the lift was lowered to the ground floor.

A crew from Scarborough responded to smoke sighted in the vicinity of Oliver’s Mount. Crews investigated on foot with a knapsack sprayer and found a smouldering grass fire measuring 15 x 1 metres. Crews extinguished the fire and believe this was caused deliberately.
