Christmas Safety Advice

✅ Christmas Trees

• If you have a real tree, keep it watered and never use hairspray to stop needle drop – it makes the tree highly flammable.

✅ Lights

• Only use outdoor lights outside and keep the packaging for future reference.
• Switch off lights when you go out or head to bed.
• Avoid overloading sockets and never ‘daisy chain’ extension leads.

✅ Candles

• Keep them away from children, pets, and anything that could catch fire.
• Never leave candles unattended or use them if you’ve been drinking or might fall asleep.

✅ Decorations & Escape Routes

• Don’t block doors, windows, or smoke alarms with decorations or trees.

✅ Electrical Gifts

• Buy from reputable retailers and check for the UKCA or CE safety mark.

✅ Home Security

• One in three festive burglaries happen because homes are left insecure. Lock doors when you leave and when you return.

✅ Travel & Alcohol

• Plan your journey home before drinking. Never drive under the influence – and remember you could still be over the limit the next morning.
