Incident Summary – Night Shift – Friday 24th April 2026

Time:  17.04   Location: Echo Hill, Sleights

Whitby and Goathland crew responded to reports of a fire in a wooded area. Crews found a small fire measuring 01 m by 01 m, cause believed deliberate. Crews used one hose reel jet to extinguish. Advice was given to youths on scene.

Time: 17.19    Location: Great Ayton 

Northallerton crew responded to reports of smoke sighted in a field. On fire crew arrival there was a fire measuring 30 x 40 m, the fire was out on crew arrival, but crews used two knapsack sprayers and a thermal imaging camera to ensure it was extinguished and check for hotspots. Cause believed deliberate and the police were informed.

A crew from York responded to reports of youths setting fire to a tree. Crews found one tree smouldering and used a bucket of water and an axe to extinguish.

Time: 20.00    Location: St Andrews Terrace, Cross Hills 

Skipton crew responded to a fire in a field, on arrival this was found to be a false alarm due to controlled burning, advice was given to the responsible person present.

Time: 20.37     Location: West Park, Harrogate

Harrogate crew responded to reports of youths setting fires in a field, on crew arrival they found two disposable BBQs lit, cause believed deliberate by youths. Fire crews used buckets of water to extinguish.

Time: 20.45    Location: Brandsby 

Easingwold, York and Acomb crew responded to a fire in a stables. On fire crew arrival the stables were well alight but it was confirmed no animals were in them. Stables measuring approximately 20 m X 30 m with straw inside was extinguished using one hose reel jet and two 45 mm hoses. Fire investigation is taking place in daylight hours.

Hawes crew assisted our colleagues at North West fire and rescue service with reports of an occupant who could smell burning but was unable to evacuate, on fire crew arrival this was found to be a false alarm. No fire service action was taken.

Time: 20.55    Location: Scarborough

Scarborough crew responded to assist a child that was locked in a car, crews stood-by whilst an auto locksmith gained access to the vehicle. No injuries were sustained and the child was reunited with family on scene. No fire service action required.

Time: 20.56   Location: Brayton 

A crew from Selby responded to reports of fires in a field, on arrival this was found to be a false alarm due to controlled burning, advice was given to the responsible person present.

Time: 23.17    Location: Albemarle Crescent, Scarborough  

Scarborough crew responded to a bin fire. Crews used a bucket of water to extinguish the fire.

Time: 23.27   Location: Nelson Street, Scaborough

Scarborough crew responded to reports that part of a ceiling had collapsed. On crew arrival approximately one square metre of ceiling had collapsed, crews checked for any water leak and ensured it was safe. Advice was given to the occupant. No fire service action required.

Time: 00.11    Location: Thirsk 

Thirsk crew assisted ambulance gain entry to a property over welfare concerns for an individual. Crews used a door enforcer to gain entry and left the individual in the care of the paramedics on scene.

Time:  02.07   Location:  High Street, Knaresborough

A crew from Knaresborough responded to a request from Ambulance to assist with gaining entry to a property due to welfare concerns for the occupant.  On arrival of the crews Ambulance had already gained entry to the property.  Crews liaised with Paramedics and stood by in case they were required for assistance with extrication.

Time:  05.07   Location: Woodland Ravine, Scarborough

A crew from Scarborough responded to a report of a fire in the woodland.  On arrival of the crew this was found to be a moped on fire and the cause was believed deliberate.  Crews used a knapsack sprayer and a bucket of water to extinguish the moped and Police were informed.

Time:  06.51   Location: Eastfield, Scarborough

Crews responded to a report of a fire seen in some grassland.  This incident is ongoing at time of publication.

Crews from Acomb, Richmond, York  responded to automatic fire alarm activations, on arrival these were found to be false alarms. Fire crews gave advice to the responsible person present.
