Incident Summary – Monday 2nd March – Night Shift
17:11 – Kirkgate, Sherburn in Elmet
Tadcaster crews attended a fire involving waste debris that had been left unattended. Crew used a hose reel.
17:11 – Danesfort Avenue, York
Huntington crews investigated reports of a fire in a garden. After inspection crew confirmed this was a small bonfire under good supervision. Fire Service intervention was not necessary.
17:14 – Emerald Street, York
York and Acomb crew responded to a fire involving extractor fan in a domestic property. Occupier had used a dry powder extinguisher prior to Fire service arrival. The fire did not spread to anywhere else. Crews made the property safe.
17:14 – Tadcaster Road, Dringhouses,York
Selby crew attended a fuel spillage at a petrol station forecourt. 5 Litres of petrol was spilled and crew cleared up spillage using sand and gave advice to staff to arrange for environmental cleaning.
17:54 – Castle Gate, Malton
Malton crew were requested to assist Ambulance to gain entry to property to treat occupant. Crews effected entry by knocking loudly which roused the resident to open the door.
18:40 – Thorpe Green Lane, Thorpe Underwood.
Acomb crews responded to investigate reports of a bonfire in the open. This turned out to be a controlled burn under adequate supervision. Fire crews gave advice.
18:48 – Grassland off A64 near, Scagglethorpe.
Malton crew were mobilised to investigate smoke billowing across road carriageway. After inspection this was confirmed to be a controlled burn but crew extinguished the fire due to the resulting smoke. Crew used a hose reel.
18:57 – Otley Road, Harrogate
A crew from Harrogate responded to a car fire on a residential street. The crew used one breathing apparatus and a hose reel jet to extinguish the fire, which was confined to the footwell of the driver’s side. A thermal imaging camera was used to monitor the temperature of the vehicle following the fire. The area in the footwell suffered moderate fire damage. The cause of the fire was believed to have been an electrical fault.
19:12 – York City Centre
A crew from attended a report of a bonfire in a car park. Further investigation found this to be a controlled burn under supervision. The crew gave advice to a responsible person on scene.
19:48 – The Groves, York
A crew from Acomb responded to a request from Ambulance to gain entry to a property where a person had fallen. The crew used a door enforcer to effect entry. They then used small tools to secure the door. The casualty was left in the care of paramedics.
19:52 – St Nicholas Cliff, Scarborough
Scarborough’s crew were requested to assist with a person who had become stuck on a lift platform. They used crew power to release the platform.
20:27 – Leeman Park, York
A crew from Huntington attended a fire in the open that had been started deliberately. They used a triple extension ladder and a hose reel jet to access the fire and fully extinguish it. Details passed to the Police.
21:15 – Stainton, Reeth
A crew from Leyburn responded to a fire in the open that a spread from a controlled burn affecting trees. Crews extinguished the fire using a hose reel and a ladder.
22:04 Thornton Road, York
York crew assisted occupants when their 3 year old child had got locked in their bedroom due to a faulty lock. Crews used small tools to open the door and gave advice to the parents.
22:22 Havelock Place, Whitby
Whitby attended a fire alarm activation in a residential property. After inspection crew confirmed this was a false alarm, the cause was unknown.
22:56 Spring Bank, Scarborough
Scarborough and Filey crew were mobilised to a fire in a domestic property caused by an overheated PC in the living room. The single occupant evacuated prior to arrival of crew who extinguished the fire and ventilated the property. The incident resulted in substantial fire damage to the living room area.
00:36 Shipton Road, Rawcliffe
Acomb crew responded to a fire alarm activation at a commercial premises. After inspection this was found to be a false alarm due to a fault on the system.
