Incident Summary – Saturday 2nd May 2026 – Night Shift
Time: 17.22 Location: Chapel Street, Thirsk
Thirsk crew responded to one shed fire, the fire was contained to the shed. Crews used one hose reel jet to extinguish and a thermal imaging camera to check for hotspots.
Time: 18.04 Location: Danby
Danby crew responded to reports of a group using BBQs on moorland, on arrival this was found to be a false alarm. BBQ was well positioned and well supervised.
Time: 18.13 Location: Great Ayton
Northallerton crew as well as assistance from a Middlesborough appliance (Cleveland fire and rescue service) responded to reports of kids setting fire in a field. On arrival crews located a tree that had been set alight. The fire was largely out but some embers remained so crews doused using buckets of water and a knapsack sprayer.

Crew from Richmond were mobilised to reports of a fire left unattended in woodland. Crew extinguished using buckets of water.

Crew from Skipton were mobilised to reports of a fire sited in a plantation. They located the fire consisting of chopped up wood. Fire was then extinguished using water from a local stream to prevent escalation.

Acomb crew responded to reports of kids setting fire in a woodland area. Fire crews found one campfire left unattended and extinguished using a bucket of water, police were informed.

Crew from Whitby were mobilised to reports of smoke sighted in vicinity of some house. Following a search this was found to be a controlled burn in a private garden.

Crew from Tadcaster responded to reports of a fire started by youths. On arrival the fire was already out and police had spoken with the youths. Crew carried out inspection only.

Crew from Knaresborough responded to reports of a fire sighted in a field. Crew located a fire measuring 3 x 8 metres left unattended. Crew used 1 hose reel jet to extinguish.
Time: 21:15 Location: A171, Staintondale
Crew from Robin Hoods Bay were mobilised to reports of people having a campfire near to woodland. This was a false alarm. The fire was contained in a metal container on hard standing ground and the occupants had water to extinguish on hand. No action taken.
Time: 21:47 Location: Scarborough
Crew from Scarborough were mobilised to reports of a bonfire on a residential street that was causing smoke to enter peoples property. This was a false alarm caused by people having a BBQ.
Time: 21:52 Location: Pickering
Crew from Kirkbymoorside responded to reports of a fire in a field. This was found to be a controlled burn under supervision.
Time: 21:53 Location: Dunnington
Crew from York responded to multiple calls about a large fire that appeared out of control. Crew located a controlled burn measuring 9 x 5 metres. Due to the size and the radiated heat which was affecting adjacent buildings crews used 1 hose reel jet to reduce the size of the fire.

Crew from Malton responded to reports of a fire in a garden. This was found to be a controlled burn under supervision of occupier. Advice given.
Time: 01.07 Location: Hovingham
A crew from Malton responded to reports of a fire sighted in a field. Crews located the fire which was unattended, crews were unable to locate the owner. Crews used one 45 jet to extinguish the fire.
