Statement after gyrocopter crashes into canal at Great Heck near Selby
At 3.05pm on Saturday, 16 September, we received a call reporting a helicopter had crashed into a canal at Great Heck, near Selby.
Two appliances from Tadcaster were mobilised to the scene and on arrival a gyrocopter was located in the canal. The pilot, a man in his 70s, was able to leave the vehicle and the canal without any assistance, and was believed to have been unharmed during the incident. He was checked over by paramedics from Yorkshire Ambulance Service.
Crews notified the relevant agencies of the incident including the Canal and Rivers Trust and the Environment Agency.
North Yorkshire Police also attended the scene.
